Watch Your Head: Chapter 7 "Goodbye"

Chapter 7: Goodbye

Bryan’s last day on the boat was pretty uneventful.  It was raining on and off and I know I had had a little bit too much to drink the night before so wasn’t too quick to go running around town.

The on request he had was to get a kebab for lunch somewhere.  I hadn’t found any place yet so we hopped on our bikes and ended up at Has Kebap.  The food looked good and there were locals eating there so we were sold.

This was our waiter.  Bryan was taking a photo of the inside of the place, but the waiter wanted in too.

At pretty much every meal you have in Turkey they bring out bread of some sort.  In this case it was a pita like fluffy bread with the choice of butter, a spicy bruchetta like dip, or a yogurt, garlic, and mint sauce.

I got the chicken kebabs and Bryan got the mixed grill.  He got a little of everything: chicken, lamb, minced meat, meatballs, rice, salad, and more pita under it all.  I was impressed at the dent he put into it.

One other thing Bryan had to get was Turkish tea.  We cheated a little and got the apple tea which is more like a warm apple cider, but he can say he’s had Turkish tea now.

My Dad was looking forward to having another man on board to get some work done… you know heavy lifting… but because of the rain there wasn’t a whole lot that he could accomplish.  Bryan got to help move the outboard motor into the storage locker which was a lot easier with three people, but that was it really.  We had dinner reservations at Monte Kemer for 7:30pm so after reading a little and a drink at happy hour we made the short walk to the restaurant where our table was waiting.

Monte Kemer is, according to the boaters, one of the best places to get lamb.  Dad and I had been there for lunch one day but never for the lamb shoulder which you go in early in the morning and order.  The restaurant has to go out and buy it, then they slow cook it so it’s fall off the bones good.   We said it was in honor of Bryan’s visit that we went there but I think Dad and I were secretly using him so we had an excuse to splurge on a 30TL meal.

The three of us at dinner.  The wine was good and the food was pretty good too.  The lamb fell off the bone, but really could’ve used some sort of sauce to go with it.  It wasn’t dry, just needed a little pick me up.

Bryan and I enjoying another apple tea after dinner.

All three of the apple tea glasses had different colors on the base.  It’s hard to see here, but I like the steam rising and it’s a good photo of Dad.

One more night on the boat… well half night.  Bryan’s plane left at 6:00am so we met his taxi at 3:00am… not quite a full nights sleep.
